Today is Thursday, July 24, 2025, and it’s time we did something fun, isn’t it?
I’ve been in a debate recently if my website, XNDEV.COM, is useful for test challenges. Specifically, if it is too “good” or too “simple.” Personally, I think it might be in goldilocks land – just right – just “good” enough to be fit for purpose, but also buggy enough to represent a test challenge of perhaps an hour from stop to done-documented.
So, on your honor, would you like to test my website?
I’m not looking for free labor, as I don’t intend to fix the bugs. I may introduce more, I haven’t decided.
In the mean time, over the next week, if you’d like, spend an hour testing the site. You can email me your results at matt@xndev.com, or just leave them in the comments. That said, the comments form is limiting, and it is always possible someone copies or builds on your work.
The competition ends Thursday July 31, at noon Eastern, the winner will win a $50 prize (payable cashapp or paypal) and yes, you can put that you won a test competition on your resume or linkedin if you’d like. We might do something else, too, like a copy of the book, or even a video session for all the entrants to talk about it over zoom. Send up your ideas!
Grading Criteria
Some things I will use to consider:
– Are the testing results well written?
– Did the competitor get the important bugs?
– Did they miss anything?
– Did they find anything new or unique?
My operating definition of a bug is something that might bug someone that matters.
I’d suggest about an hour of effort, a nice little lunch hour game, but the time invested in on your honor.
Let’s do this thing one more time, okay?
