SUMMARY:AI In Software Testing - Hip or Hype?
DESCRIPTION:Complimentary Registration Link  \nA one-hour Brighttalks webinar. \nAbout this talk\nLet’s say you hear a claim that test tooling is coming that will recognize a failure\, file a report\, fix the production code\, re-run and note the defect is fixed. Is this credible or not? How would you know? It seems like every day we are bombarded with claims like this. Yet no one talks about discernment. Here we are\, discussing testing\, a professional activity whose role includes figuring out what is really going on\, whose philosophers talk about epistemology\, the science of knowing\, and no one is talking about how to figure out what is actually going on in AI as an accelerator of testing. It’s time we start. Starting with an explanation of how large language models (LLMs) actually work\, speaker and author Matt Heusser will build a conceptualization to help you understand what they are actually doing\, and why they seem to work yet fail so spectacularly so often. After that he’ll discuss some actual practical applications\, including a few real examples from the field. The goal here isn’t to give you an answer — it is to give you a feel for how to find out the answer Finally\, we’ll put AI in context\, compared to other “veritable tsunami waves” that were going to eliminate what came before. Some ideas in AI are hip; some are hype. Let’s start talking about how to know the difference. … maybe with a couple of hip examples if we can.

SUMMARY:Improving testing on ongoing projects
DESCRIPTION:A complimentary one-hour webinar on applying test strategy \nRegistration link https://www.practitest.com/resource-center/webinar/test-strategy-on-ongoing-projects/ \nTest strategy needs to satisfy a variety of stakeholders: \n\nDelivery management wants a stable\, predictable process that “just works.”\nThe project manager wants to know when you’ll be done.\nSenior management might want to reduce time-to-release\, time-to-identify\, or time-to-fix (in production).\nThe poor tester just wants to know what to do today.\n\nTeams have some sort of test activity\, based on their previous projects or methodologies. Over time\, new test and review activities appear to catch defects that slipped through. This creates a testing process with numerous steps. Testing becomes expensive\, slow\, and ill-defined\, all in the name of “process improvement.” \nThis talk invites you to take a step back and look at the whole picture. We start by breaking testing into primitive components — that is\, what are the essential components of testing\, what problems do they resolve\, and do you have those problems. This enables you to identify gaps and redundant components in your test strategy\, allowing you to build a strategy that comprises only the necessary pieces. \nSome of the pieces of strategy we’ll discuss: \n\nMap features and determine how well they are tested.\nIdentify potential risks.\nCompile historical lists of defects.\nLeverage tooling and tooling approach to accelerate work.\nImplement effective reporting and decision-making processes.\n\nOnce you’ve examined your process\, identified the customers to that process and their competing needs\, the next step — the tough step — is to figure out what you want. The goal could be to find more bugs\, find more important bugs\, prevent bugs\, have faster deploys\, eliminate regression as a human delay\, or at least radically decrease it. Some teams want to ensure consistency\, repeatability\, or predictability. Each of these goals will lead to different measures and different outcomes. We’ll discuss a little bit on how to drive to a single kind of improvement\, then how to measure it. \nCome with your testing challenges and goals. Leave with a half-dozen patterns and practices to consider tomorrow. Many of these can be implemented over a few lunch hours and can materially impact testing at your company.
